Kinesis Project Audition Opportunity

AUDITION NOTICE for KINESIS PROJECT DANCE THEATRE

Friday, August 27, 2021

12:30-2:30pm

Interested dancers please send 2 photos and a resume (reel optional) to kinesisprojectdancetheatre@gmail.com to RSVP and receive the location.

Kinesis Project dance theatre invites dancers with a history of professional experience to join us for a workshop style audition. We are hiring at least one dancer for the NYC core company, and we are actively looking to grow our community of dancers and collaborators.

Dancers interested in using unusual spaces, exploring performing at extreme distance and discovering small, intimate moments with audience should apply.

Strengths found in Kinesis Project dancers are a grounded sense of movement, openness to collaboration, generous partnering skills and an ability to layer ideas into movement.

The company’s creative process is lead and directed by choreographer Melissa Riker and uses a wide range of tools, writing, conversations, drawings and improvisation.

Dancers who have been members of Kinesis Project have identified as martial artists, hip hop dancers, contemporary dancers and circus performers, or a mix of everything. - the common thread styles of movers have been a sense of grounding, generosity, creativity, and full bodied flow and articulation.

Current COVID-19 Protocol:

Currently venues and hosts we work with are requiring vaccinations for COVID-19. Auditioning and joining Kinesis Project implies willingness to provide proof of vaccination or receive a vaccination.

ABOUT US

Kinesis Project is a large-scale, outdoor dance company that creates highly crafted and considered spectacle and surprisingly intimate works. The company is based in NYC and Seattle, with core dancer/collaborators in each city.

Kinesis Project works through the summer months (May-October) performing, and generates new work in studio during the winter. The company takes part in winter festivals for APAP in January and hosts a Spring Gala with performances in April.

Historically, dancers have stayed with the Company for several years, creating and performing as the voice of each dancer are an important aspect of the performed work. We continue to look for artists interested in committing to Kinesis Project’s mission of bringing high quality dances to beautiful and unusual spaces as public art.

Dancer's fees are hourly for rehearsals, with paid tech and performance and a Letter of Agreement outlining the understanding between Dancer and Company.

Fee scale: $12-15 hourly for rehearsals dependent on amount of time in the company.

There is a mutual assessment period of one month at $10 per hour.

Open Rehearsals include a flat fee of $75.

Performance Fees are between $150-$250 depending on the work, length of the piece and performance partnerships.

Dancers must have a US bank account, but we are open to sponsoring artists for O-1 Visas.

As a dance company that creates works in public spaces we have a process and safety acknowledgements that are shared with all of our dance artists to keep one another safe in public spaces. We are here to celebrate the beauty of dancers and the diversity of our field while recognizing that our BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ artists likely have a mixed experience of safety in public spaces. Our safety concerns extend to all of our artists and we have our in place our process from dancer feedback and preferences.
